Laura Stephens (she/her) is currently completing her master’s degree in counselling psychology at Yorkville University. She previously completed an undergrad in English and History at the University of King’s College at Dalhousie, and a master’s degree in History from the University of Alberta.  Laura’s research focused on the ways in which collectively created narratives helped process and make sense of a traumatic period of violence in Medellín, Colombia.

As a counsellor Laura is committed to upholding anti-oppressive values and her practice is informed by narrative therapy and feminist theory. She works with a trauma informed and non-pathologizing approach, recognizing the direct impacts that systemic socio-political inequalities have on individuals’ wellbeing. Laura understands that her various identities have shaped her lived experience, and believes in approaching counselling with curiosity and collaboration, acknowledging that folks are the experts in their own lives. Laura is interested in supporting individuals who are navigating a wide range of challenges, including those relating to trauma, friendship, gender, sex, and sexuality.

In addition to counselling, Laura is passionate about her relationships to plants and animals. She loves growing food, spending time with her dog and cat, swimming, and crafting.
