Psychologist (Candidate Register)
Balliett received her Masters’ Degree in School and Counselling Psychology from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst in 1996. She received her PhD in Business (Management) from Saint Mary’s in 2009. She has 25+ years of combined experience and training in psychology, education, and mental health and has worked with children, adolescents, and families around topics of fear, anxiety, depression, and behavioural concerns. Her work has included schools, mental health agencies, and residential placements.
Balliett’s therapeutic approach is grounded in evidence-based best practices and interventions. Depending on the nature of concern, she may use cognitive-behavioural strategies, family systems models, attachment theory or EMDR to facilitate growth in emotional regulation, adjustment, communication skills, problem-solving, mindfulness, and acceptance.
Balliett believes that treatment effectiveness is a synergy of collaboration, trust, and well-chosen interventions that support meaningful change. Her goal is to provide a safe and confidential environment to help people increase their coping, confidence, effectiveness, self-care, and ultimately, their individual peace.
